Too much screen time? Managing kids’ access to technology

If you’ve got little ones at home they fall under the category of ‘digital natives’ – the generation that’s being brought up with screens and devices at their fingertips.

Figuring out just how much access kids should have to screens and devices can be tricky – how do you teach them what they need to know to get ahead in the digital age and to use tech creatively, while giving them the chance to run around, climb trees and be kids?

As part of ABC Radio’s #rebootyourlife, Nightlife took a look at kids and technology. Guests were Dr Kate Highfield, Research Fellow at Charles Sturt University specialising in fostering digital literacy in children, and Associate Professor Ben Edwards, Manager of the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children at the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
